How it works

Where the data comes from

This tool searches The Movie Database (TMDB), a community-maintained catalogue of movies and series. When you type a title, it pulls up matching results and checks their physical-media release entries — Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD — for every country TMDB has data for.

If a movie has multiple physical releases (for example, a standard Blu-ray and a later 4K edition), they are all listed. If no physical-media entries exist, the movie likely hasn't had an official disc release, at least not one that has been catalogued on TMDB.

Alongside the disc data, it checks streaming availability through JustWatch (surfaced via TMDB) and lists the subscription platforms that carry the title in your region, which it detects from your connection. Series don't have catalogued disc releases, so for them only streaming is shown.

This is a read-only lookup. No data is stored, no account is needed, and no information leaves your browser except the search query sent to TMDB.

Limits to keep in mind

What this tool does not know

TMDB is community-edited, so release dates can be incomplete, especially for older or less widely-distributed movies. A missing entry does not always mean a movie never had a physical release — it may simply not have been added yet.

Releases are region-specific. A movie might be out on Blu-ray in one country and still unreleased in another, and a streaming title can be on a platform in one market but not yours. This tool detects your region from your connection (IP-based) and shows availability for that market; when something isn't out where you are, it notes how many other regions do have it. Detection can occasionally be off — for example on a VPN.

Streaming here means subscription (flat-rate) platforms. Rent-only or buy-only digital listings are not counted, and availability changes often as licensing windows open and close.

Common questions

About the checker

Why is a movie I know is on Blu-ray not showing up?

It probably has not been catalogued on TMDB yet, or the physical release entry is missing a date. You can check the movie's TMDB page directly and, if you have an account, add the missing release date yourself.

Does this include 4K Ultra HD releases?

Yes. 4K Ultra HD discs are physical media, so they show up as a separate release entry alongside any standard Blu-ray or DVD. The format name is displayed in the listing.

How do you know if something is on streaming?

Streaming availability comes from JustWatch, surfaced through TMDB. The tool detects your region from your connection and lists the subscription platforms that carry a title there. It does not include rent-only or buy-only digital listings. If a title isn't streaming in your region but is elsewhere, the card says so.

Can I look up TV series too?

Yes. Search returns both movies and series, each tagged accordingly. TMDB doesn't catalogue physical disc releases for series, so for those only streaming availability is shown.

Can I search by year or genre?

Not directly. This tool does one thing: look up a movie by title and show its physical release dates. For catalogue browsing, TMDB's own search is a better fit.

How often is the data updated?

The tool queries TMDB live every time you search. Whatever is in TMDB at that moment is what you see.

Is this affiliated with TMDB?

No. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. The TMDB logo is a trademark of TMDB.
